Unused equipment turns into solutions.
Direct operator‑to‑operator contact turns unused equipment into immediate answers to other operators for urgent needs.
The Problem
Surplus meets shortage
Problem
- Drilling and workover campaigns end with unused equipment draining capital and storage.
- Operational challenges create urgent, last‑minute demand for critical equipment.
- Existing channels using subcontractors, agents and brokers are slow, costly, and opaque.
Result
- Lost operational time with drilling and workover rigs left on standby.
- Frozen capital due to unused and unneeded equipment being left in storage in yards and warehouse.
- Delays to get production back online or t o release the rig off contract.

Case Studies
Examples of operators solving critical operational challenges using Operator Asset Exchange.
Operator Asset Exchange Eliminates Critical Casing Delay
An offshore operator faced major difficulties running 9-5/8” casing through thinly laminated, unstable shales. The casing could not reach bottom, forcing a much shallower setting depth and leaving a long rathole that complicated the cement job as well as the next hole section. With the next well in the batch sequence designed the same, the drilling team determined that a reamer shoe was essential to avoid repeating the problem.
However, the next casing run was less than a week away, and no suitable reamer shoe was available locally. Any delay risked significant downtime.
Using Operator Asset Exchange, the Drilling Superintendent instantly identified a compatible reamer shoe held by an operator in a neighbouring country. Direct communication enabled rapid confirmation and a same-day commercial agreement.
The tool was dispatched the next morning and arrived in time, allowing the casing to be successfully run to bottom and preventing costly operational delays.
Operator Asset Exchange Unlocks Value from Surplus Well Inventory
An operator originally planned a five-well development program, but a late upper-management decision reduced the scope to three wells. This left a significant volume of well construction consumables unused. After drilling and completing the three wells and releasing the rig, the operator turned to the Operator Asset Exchange platform to list their surplus inventory.
The available equipment included 400m of 36” conductor, 700m of 20” casing, 3,500m of 13-3/8” casing, 4,700m of 9-5/8” casing, and a range of additional items such as bits, centralisers, casing shoes, float collars, and wellheads.
Within a short period, most of the equipment was purchased by other operators – many located in the same country, simplifying logistics and reducing transport costs (for the buyer).
The rapid transactions (operator-to-operator) freed up capital, cleared valuable yard and warehouse space, and allowed the operator to recover much of the original purchase value. A clear win for all parties involved.
Operator Asset Exchange Accelerates Sidetrack & ESP Completion Delivery
After a successful appraisal well confirmed the oil-water-contact and validated the volume of hydrocarbons in place, the operator elected to plug back the 8-1/2” hole and initiate a sidetrack to convert the well to be a producer. This required a redesigned program incorporating a 7” liner and a full ESP completion.
To execute the plan, the team needed to rapidly source a whipstock, casing mill, and a complete upper & lower ESP assembly—items not originally planned for the appraisal well. Time was critical, and traditional procurement routes risked delaying the sidetrack.
Using the application, the drilling & completions teams were able to locate and secure several key equipment directly from other operators, both in-country and abroad. Specialised items had to be sourced through service providers such as the ESP cable, which took longer to arrange. The equipment arrived in time, the sidetrack proceeded smoothly, and the well was successfully completed and brought online without delay.
